Sil. hosts the first Cleantech Ideation Bootcamp in collaboration with UNDP Azerbaijan

Social Innovation Lab (Sil.) and UNDP Azerbaijan hosted Cleantech Ideation Bootcamp to discover innovations that addresses one of the world’s most challenging issues – Climate Change!

On 22nd – 23rd December 33 entrepreneurs, 4 trainers, 6 mentors spent 2 full days together working on finding innovative solutions to tackle climate change through entrepreneurship.

What is Cleantech Ideation Bootcamp all about?

Cleantech Ideation Bootcamp is a two-day coaching, training and hands-on workshop program that equipped 33 cleantech entrepreneurs and innovators with the skills and tools on building a venture around one of the world’s most alarming issues – climate change (SDG 13 – Climate Action), using the most essential tools, techniques and methodologies like Design Thinking and Lean Startup methodology.

The startup teams went through a series of training and hands-on workshops throughout the bootcamp under the guidance of program coaches Jasur Hasanov & Leyla Taghizade (co-founders of Sil.), Rashid Aliyev (experienced entrepreneur and trainer), Orkhan Ahmadov (experienced entrepreneur and blockchain expert). The program gave birth to 10 new ventures at the end of the bootcamp with solidified business model and climate impact.

The ventures included a wall painting robot reducing amount of toxic chemicals in the painting process through optimizing the process, fuel gas that reduces amount of CO2 emissions by offering biofuel as an alternative to dizel, online platform connecting vendors and sellers of any type of eco-friendly products with conscious businesses, alternative energy generator that harvests energy out of sea waves designed for ports and seaside businesses and a lot of ambitious and promising innovations proposed for tacking the climate change by providing much sustainable solutions to consumers.

At the end of the program the startups pitched their ventures to the Jury consisting of innovation and industry experts. The Jury included Prof. Yusif Abdullayev (cleantech entrepreneur & scientist), Gunel Farajova (Climate Change and Sustainability expert, EY Azerbaijan), Prof. Amir Vakhshouri (cleantech entrepreneur & scientist), Leyla Taghizade (experienced entrepreneur & innovation expert), Asif Ibrahimov (Technology and innovation expert, Azercell).

The first and second prize winning startups – Ecosol and Coloroll won direct access to the world’s largest cleantech program ClimateLaunchpad Azerbaijan 2019 where they will go through 15 weeks of acceleration to further develop their cleantech venture.

Some of the topics covered in the bootcamp were Market Segmentation, Customer Value Proposition, Financial Forecasting, Climate Impact, Competitive Advantage, Customer development process that are essential for early stage cleantech startups.

During the Bootcamp was held an inspiring Startup Talk by ThermoNorth & Wasco – ClimateLaunchpad 2018 Global Finalists.
